The Wreaths Across America Foundation is an organization which coordinates wreath-laying ceremonies at more than 2,100 locations across the United States, at sea and abroad. Every December, Georgia National Cemetery Advisory Council (GNCAC) participates in this initiative to remember and honor veterans and families interred at Georgia National Cemetery. Our goal is to place a wreath for every veteran and show our appreciation during a touching ceremony. Volunteers may still place wreaths in person but the ceremony will be virtual.
In order to comply with Covid 19 restrictions, the wreath placement event will be spread out over a three day period. Volunteers may sign up to place wreaths during a two hour time slot between 9AM and 3PM on *December 17, 18, or 19. The Wreaths Across America Foundation is assisting the individual cemeteries by maintaining a sign-up log. Prospective volunteers may sign up through a link on the home page at GANationalCemetery.org. This is an attempt to control the crowds at any particular time.
All donors and families wishing to place wreaths on specific sites are encouraged to sign up to participate Thursday, December 17 or Friday, December 18. Due to Covid restrictions, the Department of Veterans Affairs will be unable to provide transportation vans to assist people living with disabilities, so folks with mobility issues are encouraged to participate on Thursday or Friday as well. Volunteer groups and the general public are encouraged to sign up on Friday and Saturday in order to place all remaining wreaths. Space is limited and masks and gloves will be required. There will be no public ceremony, however, a virtual ceremony will be shared on social media and GaNationalCemetery.org.
*These dates and times are exclusive to the Georgia National Cemetery placement event. All other cemeteries participating in Wreaths Across America will create their own schedule.
